Election Day in El Paso: What to Bring, Where to Vote, and the 7 p.m. Line Rule (El Paso Sun City News)

Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, 2026, and polling places across El Paso will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Any voter who is in line at 7 p.m. will still be allowed to vote, so the most important deadline of the day is being in line before the polls close.

Texas requires photo identification to vote in person. Voters may present one of seven approved forms: a Texas driver license, a Texas Election Identification Certificate, a Texas personal identification card, a Texas handgun license, a U.S. military identification card with a photo, a U.S. citizenship certificate with a photo, or a U.S. passport. An approved ID may be expired for up to four years, and voters 70 and older may use an expired approved ID regardless of how long ago it expired.

Voters who cannot reasonably obtain one of those seven photo IDs may sign a Reasonable Impediment Declaration at the polling place and present a supporting form of identification, such as a utility bill, a bank statement, or their voter registration certificate. Early voting in Texas ended on Friday, October 30, so Election Day voting is the remaining in-person option.

El Paso voters can confirm where to vote, and what races and measures are on their ballot, through the state's official voter site, VoteTexas.gov, and through the El Paso County Elections department, which publishes polling locations for Election Day. Checking both sources the night before is the surest way to avoid a wasted trip across town.

The border city's distances make planning worthwhile. El Paso stretches along Interstate 10 from the New Mexico state line to the county's eastern and southern communities, and a few minutes spent confirming a polling place, gathering an ID, and choosing a voting time can turn Election Day into a short errand instead of a long one.
